Frequently Asked Questions

The tour is available all year round. The best time to visit is from May to October, when the weather is mild and the landscapes are at their most beautiful. June to August is peak season, when Terelj National Park is lush and green and the weather is warm and pleasant for hiking to Ariyabal Temple and exploring Turtle Rock. September and October offer stunning autumn colours with fewer crowds. Winter tours (November to March) are possible and offer a unique snowy landscape experience, but temperatures can drop to -30°C, so warm clothing is essential.

We usually arrive back in Ulaanbaatar between 16:00 and 18:00, depending on traffic. If you have a flight or train to catch that evening, please let us know in advance and we can adjust the day's schedule.

Children are welcome and usually enjoy the horse and camel rides at the roadside stops. Please see our child pricing.

A tourist ger camp is the main type of accommodation outside cities — set in open countryside, away from traffic and towns, for travellers who want to be surrounded by nature. A typical camp has 30–40 guest gers, a large ger restaurant, and a shared toilet and shower building.

Each standard ger is a traditional Mongolian ger (yurt) with beds, bedside tables, a table, chairs and a wood stove.

Each ger has beds with bedding and a wood stove for heating. Showers and toilets are in a shared facilities building a short walk from the gers, with hot water available. Electricity is available in the gers: 220V, 50Hz, with European type C and E sockets — please bring an adapter if you need one. The camp restaurant serves all meals.

Yes — single accommodation at the ger camp is available on request for a supplement. Please enquire when booking.

Meals included in the tour are listed in the Included section. We select restaurants and Ger camps that offer both authentic Mongolian cuisine and European dishes to suit all tastes. Please inform us of any dietary requirements or food allergies before your tour.

The official currency is the Tugrug (MNT, symbol ₮). Commonly used banknotes are 1,000₮, 5,000₮, 10,000₮ and 20,000₮. ATMs and currency exchange offices are widely available in Ulaanbaatar. Outside the city, ATMs are rare or unavailable, so we recommend bringing sufficient cash before departing Ulaanbaatar. Credit cards are accepted at most hotels and major stores in the city.
